Holy  Week  Scriptures

Holy Week ~ April 13th to April 20th

Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday, April 13th and ends

Easter Sunday, April 20th.

This is a time for deep reflection and remembrance of the final days of Jesus' life here on earth, the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, and his triumphant ressurection 3 days later after his crucifixion.

As we read the scriptures in our Bible Reading this Holy Week, may we experience the ressurection power and HOPE of Jesus, know the deep LOVE of Jesus, and the power and deep LOVE of God;

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

Jesus's entry into Jerusalem

Palm Sunday

They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting,

“Hosanna!”

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Blessed is the king of Israel!”

John 12:13

Jesus's cleansing of the Temple

Holy Monday

Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. “It is written,” he said to them, "My house will be called a house of prayer,’but you are making it a den of robbers." Matthew 21:12-13

Olivet Discourse on the
Mount of Olives

 Holy Tuesday

Matthew 24:42“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come."

Betrayal of Jesus Christ by Judas Iscariot

Holy Wednesday

Luke 22:4-6

And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. 5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money. 6 He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.

The Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples

Holy Thursday

Matthew 26:26-30

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

Crucifixion and Death
of Jesus Christ

Holy Friday

Matthew 27:32-37,50

As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross.

They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”).

There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it.

When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

And sitting down, they kept watch over him there.

Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is Jesus, the king of the jews.

And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

1 Peter 1:21

‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

The Burial of Jesus in the Tomb

Holy Saturday

Matthew 27:57-61

As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.

John 19:38-42

Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.

JESUS HAS RISEN - The greatest News ever heard in all the world!

Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene

Easter Sunday

Luke 24:6-7  He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”

John 20:11-16  Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”

“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).

John 20: 27-29 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.  Psalm 19:14
